José
Angel Henrickson is a multi-talented actor/writer/director,
achieving critical acclaim for screenwriting the 2007 Lionsgate
release, LADRON QUE ROBA A LADRON. The film, at the time of its
release, boasted the largest theatrical release for a Spanish
language film in U.S. cinematic history, opening in 341 theaters and
is credited as one of the main reasons for the formation of
PANTELION, the Panamax Films, Televisa and Lionsgate joint venture.
A native of south Texas, Jose's diverse background in stage,
television, film and stand-up comedy have enabled him to remain in
the business for over twenty five years.
He has produced and directed for both local and national Spanish
language television including KRCA in Los Angeles and NBC's
Telemundo Network. In 2000 he wrote, edited, produced and directed
his first feature film, the indie Latino thriller, THE BARRIO MURDERS
which was well received in several Latino film festivals and acquired
distribution in 2002. In 2003 José wrote and co-directed the indie
Latino, sci-fi action thriller GB2525. Another Latino film festival
favorite, GB2525 was an audacious piece of indie cinema with
political and economic overtones that touched the very audience it
was made for, Latinos. EL CONTRATISTA (THE CONTRACTOR) marks yet
another thought provoking effort from José, utilizing the largely
unknown but powerful book WAR IS A RACKET, as a central plot point.
Nonstop, José continually works to display his spectrum of talent
acting in theater, writing and directing as he continues to redefine
American Latino cinema for the 21st century. |
